The Gyrotonic method is a unique movement method developed by Juliu Horvath in the 1980’s. The method enables both simultaneous lengthening and strengthening of muscles, it stimulates circulation and enhances joint mobility and coordination. Spiralling, circular movements that flow together are the basis of Gyrotonic exercise flowing together seamlessly in rhythmic repetitions. Each movement has corresponding breathing patterns. Each Gyrotonic movement flows into the next, which allows the joints to move through their natural range of motion. These carefully crafted sequences create balance, efficiency, strength and flexibility, without jarring or compression of the joints.
The Gyrotonic method uses specialised equipment to enhance movement. Juliu Horvath believes that the body is designed to work as one harmonious system, and sees the body as following arcing and spiralling paths of motion, transitioning from one movement to another both smoothly, and efficiently. Therefore specialised equipment was designed to facilitate these natural movement patterns of the human body.
Gyrotonic equipment is highly adjustable, and can, therefore, be customised to fit each person’s unique ability and physique, adapting for things such as height, arm and leg length.
